This is a good example of waiting for the right one to come along. I am using this 17" ASUS Gaming Laptop for my desktop recording sessions at the home studio. I chose it for the 16 GB and 256 GB SSHD, and 1 TB HD upgrades. Let me say "Rock Solid". The upgrades allow me record from another computer to the laptop with no delays or glitches one might experience with lesser components. The 17" screen is easy on the eyes and GREAT for editing and watching HD videos. Side by side with my studio HDTV, the laptop is sharper, crisper, and has better color. The facial tones are more realistic than my HD TV. That's probably due to the 4 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics included in the unit. The sound is great for watching movies up close. I have the setting at 56% and it is loud enough to enjoy the movie. I put the volume up to 100 but it was unnecessary. Also, I noticed there is no cracking or rumbling in... However my device arrived in perfect condition regardless. Out of box the device boots and is ready to setup, my device shipped with Windows 10 Build 1703 so updating took a good hour and a half. Performance: After getting Windows and drivers up to date, the laptop is ready to go and already set up at 120Hz. I bought this laptop specifically for the refresh rate as a high refresh rate is necessary for competitive FPS gaming. This laptop can handle any game you throw at it, just make sure you tweak your settings to help achieve 120+ frames to take full advantage of the 120Hz. Thermals: One thing to note is the laptop gets pretty loud and very hot. There are two fans on the bottom, and there is very little clearance between the fans and the surface your laptop will be sitting on. I recommend you... I was going to return this laptop because the lagging was TERRIBLE and my games were playing at a low FPS. My older laptop I had since 2009 moved faster. I was fed up, and went through the whole process of contacting Amazon to set up a return. I got the packaging out of my closet and everything lol. I was in the process of resetting this computer to return, and something told me to read the 1 star reviews to see if I did terrible research. While scrolling through the 1star reviews, I lucked up and someone posted the solution to my problem. I figured I'd have to wait a couple of hours before I could test it out since my ASUS was resetting, but I looked over at my computer and the reset didn't go through. So I took the sign, tested out the solution, and guess what? IT WORKS! My performance increased dramatically, and my FPS went from around 45 to about 90. I recommend this computer for gaming. Runs everything so smooth now. The screen is bright and... Read more |
